Kirk Lego was born on March 11th, 1958, in Newark, Delaware. Interested in economics from a young age, he attended the University of Delaware and received a degree in business management. He founded a transportation company specializing in air travel. He retired as CEO in 2018.
Lego first got involved in politics in the 1984 Presidential Election, serving in the presidential campaign of Vice President Walter Mondale. He went on to serve on Democratic campaigns in the 1988, 1992, 2000, and 2004 presidential elections.
In January, 2021, after years of working in political campaigns, Kirk Lego decided to try his hand at his own political career. He was elected to the United States House of Representatives after a hard-fought election. Here, he authored concurrent resolutions demanding free and fair elections in Russia and Myanmar, and wrote bills to establish executive task forces to research the potential costs of universal healthcare and public community college.
Lego left the House of Representatives in March, 2021, after being appointed to the position of Secretary of State and Secretary of the Treasury (later Secretary of Revenue) under Governor Cross. He would remain here for several months, managing Olympian elections and government expenditures. In this capacity, Lego gained much experience in fiscal and monetary policy, by working hands-on with the Olympian budget and proposing changes to taxation policies.
In April, 2021, Kirk Lego received a waiver from the Olympia General Assembly, allowing him to once again serve in the House of Representatives while maintaining his position within the Olympian executive. He was appointed Speaker pro tempore by Speaker Noah, and presided over most sessions of the House of Representatives. In May, 2021, he once again left the House of Representatives to increase focus on executive duties under Governor Taylor.
In July, 2021, Lego was elected Governor of Olympia. He accomplished much in his three terms. As soon as he entered office, he signed an executive order reforming the Olympian criminal justice system to better fit the needs of the people, and effectively decriminalizing drugs within Olympia. He also passed an executive order decriminalizing prostitution, wrote legislation to expand the Olympian court system to provide better justice within the Commonwealth, and wrote legislation to make voter registration an automatic process.
